Been a long time coming

Imagine my surprise when all of a sudden I remembered with a spark about this long forgotten, consigned to the dustbins of forgetfulness and the malady of procrastination this mode of self expression I so often used to take refuge in on many a windswept and rain-soaked day when my fingers used to tremble for the feel of the keyboard. A strange sense of solitude yet companionship at the same time.

So much has happened in life while my blog stood still. Events unforeseen which caused me to doubt the very nature of our existence and the question as to whether at the end of the day our lives are pointless, just a boring humdrum of monotonous daily existence. Sartre would have us believe that when man looks within himself all he perceives is a void and it is from this void that he gets his strength. There are as many different takes on this strange phenomenon called life as there are people living their unique lives, battling unique problems. What is this thread that binds us together, this thread of commonality that lends itself to all of us being so distinctly unique yet at the end of the day part of the same species with the same hopes, the same aspirations, the same dreams, the same worries.."Will I get through the night?".."Will morning bring with it the promise of a brighter future?".."All is not lost, bol?"

Love is another enigma. Even though I've never had the experience myself of being in a relationship and so not being in a position to draw conclusions based on first hand experience, I have seen too many couples with, again, that same thread binding all of them and their relationships. The human need for unconditional love is, I suppose. as ancient as the creation of mankind itself when people learnt to discover desire and the inherent need to be with a person of the opposite sex. A perfect relationship is something we all crave for but something that rarely, if ever, comes to fruition. Still amidst all the fights, all the drudgery, people stick it out to the very end. What is amazing though is the strength of the human heart. The power to love. The power to care. The power of compassion. On the other hand the human heart can be truly frightening. The desire to annihilate. The struggle for power. The fight for supremacy. Too many nations have perished, too many people have suffered because of the vagaries of the human heart, more so because of the whims and fancies of a few conceited individuals.

Hope. That magic four letter word. Without hope, what would we be? The essential fabric that makes us all human. The promise of a better tomorrow. The insatiable appetite for self improvement. The strength to carry on. Truly we human beings are made of stronger stuff than we think. Think of the magnificence of a species which is perfectly endowed with the capacity to battle any kind of situation head on, bestow love on another person and still have the courage to dream about a better future anidst the desdire to impove the present!

Nip in the Air

Aahh that time of the year again...the nip in the air...the old familiar chilly feel...kind of a blessing really, given that the Kolkata summer can be quite oppressive when in full force. On the downside though there's the fact that this weather does tend to make you give vent to your procrastinating and lazy side :P

The past couple of days have passed by in such a blur that I really donno where it began and where it ended..

Shock

As a child and even as a full-grown adult there were(are) always i believed(believe)in. So how to react when something that you thought wasn't going to happen suddenly materialises in front of you and hits you like a wet slap on a cold winter's day? I don't know. Left feeling shocked beyond disbelief. Me? Just goes to show the gamut of human emotions and the length they can take you. Or do I blame it on the technology explosion? How the fast the world has actually become that these very emotions can lead you on the path to sure and certain destruction? I mean why? why? why? why would an individual want to throw away everything it has for a seemingly trivial pursuit that too when it could possibly not be left wanting in anything? Not anything that meets the eye, to say the least. I wonder what it is that human beings have hidden underneath their exterior that doesn't catch the naked eye but is always there, waiting to erupt in the most painful ways imaginable? I don't want my perfect world to be rocked to the core yet again. Maybe I'm over-reacting but I have seen too many people and their lives to not be affected in the least by this sudden turn of events. However detached I may try to seem with respect to all this I just can't because at one level, at least, it affects me and I just can't pretend it doesn't. For someone who's been through a lot in his childhood nothing really affects me anymore but I only hope people will have the rationality not to throw away something precious in the haste of the moment and serenity will prevail. Not a vacuum that leaves an ugly distaste which just refuses to go away however hard you try. Why does every corner, twist and turn of this enigma called life have to be filled with surprises. Its not about what's on the surface but what's bubbling underneath and the seemingly horrible implications it could lead to.I thought I was done with my share of surprises, atleast for the time being.

And I know, I'm dead on the surface
But I'm screaming underneath
-
Amsterdam,
A Rush of Blood to the Head,
Coldplay

Clearly, I was wrong. Just so gut-wrenchingly wrong

aahh

Somehow nothing in my life has ever been able to compensate the lethal combination of tea and cigarettes and the tremendously relaxing feeling you get when you're surrounded by your friends at your favourite tea shop...be it in Karunamayee or the locality. I caught up with a friend over tea today and it was really amazing as to how much we had to share. Really gave me a fresh perspective on life and how I shouldn't get bogged down by whatever's happening!

Nothing Much

Well coming back to blogger after a ga of over 3 months or so certainly makes it all the more worthwhile, especially when I see a very favorite blog of mine after a long long time :P

I donno what is it that pulls me back to this very page but at the same time when there's a tonne you need to get off your chest and you really don't know where to go I suppose this really is the best place. When I was a kid, I really used to excel in everything I did, apart from sports, which is but obvious given my bulk and that I used to weigh 95 kilos at the age of 13. My writing skills were par excellent. My English, spoken or otherwise, was brilliant. I was the proverbial teacher's pet. My grades used to be outstanding. I was the cream of the class. This is not my arrogance. Just self-reflection. Everything was smooth until a certain event. Not that I've ever used it as an excuse for underperforming but that doesn't take away anything from the gravity of the situation. After class 7 my grades started slipping very badly. I thought I could continue in this manner till my ICSE and really get away with it. It didn't happen. Average marks.

Then came the real nightmare. Forced into a stream I was totally aghast to study, my life as I knew it became a total nightmare. Everything seemed fine on thew surface but underneath I was hollow and empty. Day after day was a struggle with myself, a fight to rein in my negativities and to keep all sorts of random thoughts out of my head. I lost interest in going to school and my attendance dropped to 49%. Abysmal really. I lost all belief in myself and the pressure at home just made things worse. Pressure to tread the beaten path rather than chart my own course. I did excel in certain areas though but it was never ever given any importance. Brushed under the carpet would be more like it.

Self-pity is a very dangerous thing. At this moment the Michael Stipe feat Chris MArtin version of 'In the Sun' is playing in the background. I'm feeling so low. So low. After a very long time. A very very long time. The worst thing is I can't even put a finger on the problem. This is turning into one hell of a disjointed blog with no continuity whatsoever but what the heck.

Aah yes coming to the more pressing question which begs careful consideration-academics. What does the future hold for me? I donno. No one does actually. From the veyr first day that I finally made it to my college after a long and arduous struggle all I've done is wasted my true potential and left too much to chance.

I had a brilliant chance to make up for my failures in part 2 but for some strange reason it didn't happen. I'm also the sort of person who tends to put a lot of emphasis on feelings and emotions and not hurting those of others and that could be one of the reasons why every fall leaves me more bruised and battered than ever before. I have got to be ruthless. Have to study hard. Have to realiose my potential. The result is not important as long as I have the courage to answer my conscience that YES i put in my best effort. I will make something of my life. This I promise. This is not how I had charted the course of my life and this is not how I want my life to end. I want to make everyone porud even if just for once.

So many confusing and conflicting emotions in my head. Have to shut them all out and focus only on my studies. If it means being an emotionless being without a heart so be it.

Strange thing is even now that I think about it is just not possible to be heartless. I have too much of a feeling heart in me to do that. SO let's cross that one out. What is the next best alternative then? TO balance. One thing I can never ever do.

Stop thinking too much.

Stop watching sitcoms.

Be at peace with yuorself

Lead a constructive life for a change.

I really hope I can make a difference this time. Really

Ruminations

He was feeling under the weather or so he thought. The park seemed a good place to relax, just be by himself with none but his thoughts and the surroundings for company.

It was autumn, just the beginning of fall. The park wore a deliciously leafy look. The leaves as if expressing their anguish at parting from their abode were just starting to wear that pale crimson look. Some were totally their, some not quite.

The impermanence of it all always struck him. What was really constant?Change? The more he thought about it,the more sense it seemed to make to him.So much had changed yet so much still remained the same. The old order changeth,he mused to himself as he watched the leaves scattered in that peculiar pell-mell fashion so typical of them.Just look at them,so content yet so sad, like siblings unbound and unfettered yet longing for the chains that bound them to their erstwhile parent.

Or maybe he was just thinking too much,he thought to himself as he sought out the solitude of a lonely corner where few would even care to look at him and the only passers-by would be couples too madly in love to even cast a passing glance or elderly people who were just content to let life move along at their own pace.

As he took out his pack of cigarettes and lit one,he thought that his life had reached a strange but very concrete deadlock. The twirling smoke was indicative of the state of his mind at that very instant. What was it that he really wanted?Fame?Money?A stable family?Self-gratifying material pleasure?Or did it really matter in a world where all you carry forward to the next existence is your karma and your soul?A broad grin stretching from ear to ear was a clear giveaway that he found great amusement and pleasure in these ruminations.Far removed from the daily grind and enveloped by Mother Nature,he could at long last give the fullest expression to this twirling thoughts without reserve and without being accountable and answerable to anyone but himself

So engrossed was he in his own world that he failed to notice that the edge of the seat had by this time been occupied. His alter existence, his world was one in which everything was static.Change and more change till you got sick of the running and found your shelter beneath the clear blue skies with the gurgle of the flowing stream over the pebble providing the perfect antagonistic foil to his agony and angst-ridden ruminations. His comfort zone.Where everything was perfect. The bliss of it all made the fullest extent of his escapist tendencies shine and blind him from theharsh realities of outside.

With another smile,he lit another cigarette.

"You shouldn't smoke, you know. You won't be alive for much longer if you do.It's a real shame that your generation wastes its life thinking that there's no hope for humanity and that self-gratification and alienation is the only solution"

The voice, though soft and mellow and spoken with a quiet self-determination seemed to shock him out the self-gratifying trance he had invariably enveloped himself in over the course of the past hour and a half and brought him back to his senses faster than ice cold water on a freezing winter's day.The face was kindly and seemed to speak volumes of the trials and tribulations every human being is bound to undergo over the course of a long existence.Weather-beaten,tanned and burnished yet etched with those lines that gave him all the appearances of a fighter. His eyes had a strange twinkle as if all that was worldly wise could be found in the infinite depths of those fathomless tunnels. The piercing gaze seemed to rip apart all the pretence of our youngster we have just witnessed thinking out loud to himself, much to the consternation of the fellow denizens of the park who so much as even cast a passing glance at him.Like an arrow to the heart, his words shot him to the quick.

"Was I really that loud?!",he exclaimed in consternation.

"You don't necessarily have to be loud to catch one's attention, child".Nevertheless it is getting dark and I have to be home early today. Not like the good old days of yore when I used to happily sit in your place and roll joints and drink to absolute merriment and with gay abandon with like minded company!"

"You're a hypocrite,sir"

"Well you might call me someone who just thought it best to utter friendly advice in your favour.Nevertheless I'm off.See you tomorrow"

"How're you so sure?!"

"I know the ways of youth"

With that said, our elderly character casts a kindly twinkle at the pudgy youngster and strolls off amiably at a leisurely pace befitting his advancing age. We'll leave our youngster at the point where he thinks of this strange encounter and prone as his mind is to wander uninhibitedly, arrives at more than one possible conclusion to this strange and chance encounter. As he strolled home,he thought to himself..."Who was this benign and strange fellow whose acquantaince I seemed to have made just by chance and who seemed to read my thoughts to perfection? Will I meet him again if I come again to this very same place, like he promised?"

As to whether these two characters actually did meet again is quite another very interesting story and desereves telling in a different time and space continuum. For now,we can only think, watch and wait.

Musings

I donno what's wrong with me these days but I barely have any time to listen to my favourite music these days. Not that I'm this crazily busy person with a 9-5 not having a minute to spare but i really can't remember the last time I sat down with my guitar and played to my heart's content.Maybe its the pace of my life.Maybe its become too hectic. My fingers move like unwilling slaves on the fretboard these days,I can't recognise songs being played and end up staring blankly at the face of my friends who stare at me incredulously.

Same goes for movies.Although I do agree I was never one of your movie buffs I did catch a movie or two whenever I'd get time to spare with my friends.Nowadays I have to rack my brains to remember the last time I saw a movie, read a good book, heard a good song with the true affection it deserves and thoroughly read the newspaper.

Something's going wrong somewhere but I just donno what :P

Its just that I guess I tend to waste my time with too much unproductive thinking, daydreaming and what-not.

I will take a firm resolve and a strong determination to put a stop to all that and make a fresh start :D

I'm always home early from college but ask me as to what I did the whole day and I come up with a blank stare.I just can't recollect having done something constructive/worthhwile.That;'s how pitiful and meaningless my life has become and it really is high time I put a stop to all this.

I resolve!

:D

Haircut

Today was a very uneventful day.Didin't anticipate all the shocked reactions of everyone seeing my new haircut though!I mean I just thought I'd try out something new and here I get these reactions which range from "Good" to "Bad" to "shocking".But the best reaction so far has to be the ingenious Hiuen Tsang.Incredulous!

Anyway I felt it was high time a change was needed but not at the cost of inviting all those utterly bewildered and totally confunded and irrepresibly shocked looks and stares :P

It all started in the canteen when the group of girls saw me.With a scream loud enough to attract the attention of even the usually disinterested Pramod,Radhika turns to me and says,"What have you done to your hair Mono?!!"

Then begins the barrage of questions and opinions...

...Why did you do this?...What rpompted you to change your mind like this?...Have yuo gone insane?...No it'll look better after a week or so when its become a bit longer!...You're looking good only(Finally!..thanks a tonne Prerna :P)...and so on and so forth!

But the best and I mean absolutely takes the icing on the cake type has to be...

...Soumyajit Mallick outside the tuition photocopy shop...

"...You look like Hiuen Tsang!!!"

That corks it!I will think twice before getting another haircut like this done :P :P :P

Another dramatic improvement took place today in my otherwise mundane life

I REJOINED MY YOGA CLASSES!

I have taken a strong determination to lose weight and be healthy :D
(And no I HAVE NOT fallen in love :P)

It was a very curious feeling to go to that place again after such a long time and face the same old jovial man called Mukul Datta via whose efforts I had lost 10 kilos in 3 months and would have lost much more if I'd had the endeavour to continue :P

There's a beautiful Chinese proverb which goes...

"...The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago.The second best time is now"

Putting this proverb into use really has the immense capacity and potential to benefit me in every sense of the term and as Devangana says a lighter me with this haircurt will be a sight to see :P

Feeling very very fresh and energetic and optimistic about life in a very very lobg time :P

Turn the Page

Its been such a long time since i blogged that I can't even remember the last time.Bad case of writer's block I presume :P.

Maybe that's because i tend to think too much of everything these days.Nothing makes sense anymore! So i hsould lighten uop,let life take its own course and write whatever's on my mind, whenever it is :D

Now that's called making a fresh start

:D

Tangled up in Green

Early one morning the Sun was shining,I was layin in bed

Wondering how the mighty fall,at what I had just read.

Greenspan was the man to beat,he be the one who had it all

But when,oh,the bubble burst,he be the first to take the fall

I was sittin at the edge of my seat, glued to the newsflash on TV

Every man,no matter big or small, sooner or later must take a fall

Unfolding like a pack of cards, like chinaware shattering into shards

Terror unfolding in NYC,was it you or was it me?

We had no clue as to where we'd been,

Tangled up in green

Prices were good when first foot they set,how much are you willing to bet

Collateral was the order of the day,no price to high if you could just pay

Times were good and the going was strong, the banks did all the people throng

Loans being dished out like free lunch,do have it while you still can munch

For its not gonna be the Fed Reserve, who'll say you bit more than you deserve

Greed was thick and Prudence was thin

I don't know about no Deadly Sin

Mighty America was what we had seen

Tangled up in green

Growth rate going all gung-ho,policymakers screamed,"Not so low"

We're gonna show you where we're at,its no bunny pulled out of a hat

But one fine day the bubble burst, under breath they raved and curs't

The American Dream was well alive,di'n stop it from a nosedive,

AIG and Bank of Am,the twin babies of Uncle Sam

Said,"We're in debt, got no money left, there's been a broad daylight theft."

We ain't got no f***ing reserves, forget about them fancy curves

Its like nothing that we've ever seen

Tangled up in green

[To be continued]

Elation(!)

Today I have absolutely no clue whatsoever why but I'm feelin elated. But tremendously nervous aty the same time.I've lost all sense and don't even know what I'm typing or why I've sat down to type in the first place.Well I listened to three back to back concerts

1)Jimi Hendrix live in Woodstock(1969)

2)Pink Floyd at Live 8(2005)

3)Pink Floyd Live in Amsterdam Rock n Roll Circus(tentatively 1972)

Boy did that get me fired up.I now have the boundless energy to conquer all my trepidations and am positively bouncing with enthusiasm.I'll do it.Who says I can't.

I've got into this sort of groove where nothing else really matters anymore.Only the 6th and the 8th of July.Thank God for providing me with such wonderful friends who lend me books at the drop of a hat(nowhere else has the comparative static portion been dealt with more effectively :P).I need them now, more than I've ever needed them before.I'm all fired up here and I'm typing with the ferocity of a starving wolf. What have I been doing all this time underestimating myself and my abilities??!!!

No one is small.Everyone has the ability to shine in his/her own way.Hah!What do I care let them criticise away.As if it effects me.As if I give two hoots.I live life on my own terms and I'm not going to change for anybody in this entire world.I'l push myself to the limit today. Its been a long time since I've done so(someone will testify :P).Today is the day.

I still remember the day of the Presidency entrance examination. On the way to the examination centre,my mother was like(I dropped her to school on the way)...

..."Don't worry or be tense now.Whatever has to happen for your good only"

To which I replied...

..."Even if the entrance test had been postponed by a month,I couldn't have been better prepared or felt more confident than I am now."

Whoa!I had actually said that. And I want to be sitting on this very chair in  front of this very keyboard, typin the same thing somewhere in mid-july.I have to.I owe it to everyone who loves me and cares for me.This is much more than any ol sytupid exam. This is a test of my integrity,my tenacity,my willingness to survive in the face of all odds and the ability to not crumble in the face of pressure and show everyone that I was fully justified in taking this grand sub ject.

11 and 12 was like a nightmare like me.An unqualified disaster. So after proving my worth and getting through to one of the best undergrad economics college in India, should I falter at the firast hurdle?I should not.For then people will smirk. They will be filled with glee, albeit sadistic. For people will be people. So when I have such a golden chance to wipe that smirk off the face of everyone who doubts me and wants me to fall into a bottomless pit and derive mirth at my tears and success at my failure, why waste it?!

Should we shout,should we scream?!

What happened to the post war dream?!

Not to worry. The post war dream is very much alive in my heart and soul

Etude(op. 60 no. 22) in C Major

I've been stuck on this composition since morning(9.30ish to be exact) and still for the life of me haven't been able to master it.Guess it speaks volumes about the sheer genius that is Matteo Carcassi.Seriously there is something in Carcassi's musiic and his compositions that drive me absolutely crazy.Especially this one.

Its beautiful, poignant, like a waft of cool air on a scorching hot summers afternoon, like the morning dew on the green leaves which hang from the tree adjacent to my room.I don't know what it is about this composition that made me realise what I'd been missing out due to lack of practise all this time and what I'd be missing out if I,God forbid,Had to stop guitaring for the sake of academic brilliance.

That is such a cliched phrase, come to think of it.Academic brilliance. How many people are deprived of there creative pursuits, their passion, their extra-curricular vocation which drives them wild, ignites their minds, lends them wings to fly in the face of the roaring wind, sails to brave  the raging seas, courage to smite the odds and a smile to tide through all occasions just for the sake of achieving "academic brilliance"?

Critics might scoff  and say its possible to pursue academics and your vocation at the same time. But it does get progressively difficult witheach advancing level. It even drove one of my friends to the pt of tears(or as close to tears as you can get),after which he took the sensible decision to continue with his music,God bless his noble soul!

But I honestly am yet to meet someone like me who's failed to achieve anything in this field even after keeping at it for close to 10 years.Phew! That's a lot eh?!Even I think so whenever the awful realisation dawns on me that I should have achieved significantly more than what I've achieved in the guitaring sense.Definitely.

But one advantage I do have over most other musicians I see all around me is that, firstly,I started off with an acoustic classical guitar, which I have been playing ever since (cep for my first stage performance at my college students union freshers' welcome where I was the bassist)and which I LLOVVE with all my heart and soul!Secondly,I KNOW HOW TO READ MUSIC!I mean,it may sound like a very insignificant thing to say, seeing as i haven't been able to achieve much in this field anyway, compared to my more illustrious compatriots who've played at the likes of venues like Someplace Else(not to put them down though,I'm just saying what comes to my mind).People who haven't had the pleasure of reading music  from a piece of paper  and expressing themselves on their instrument have underestimated the power of the divine gift of articulate music(Taking a cue from George Bernard Shaw's Henry Higgins where the latter says'"You are a human being...with the divine gift of articulate speech"),whatever be their achievements. No offence intended.

When I see all these talented musicians around me at the college level,I do get astounded by their skill on the six(or four, whichever be the case)strings(and the keys as well). The rudest shock I get I get is when I ask them

"Dude, mind telling me as to how long you've been practising?"

And pat comes the answer,"Not much.ei 3-4 yrs hobe"

And that's when the reality of all the years I've wasted comes to haunt me.To be honest with myself,I've even lost the enthusiasm to play with any sort of a group until I feel I'm well and truly ready to make a mark as a classical musician.Truly.For it is he/she who has mastered a classical guitar that will make his/her mark in the musical world. Not that I don't think it isn't too late already but what I'd like the most is to utilise fully the available time I have, divide it evenly b/w my guitaring and academics and see what I can make of things

Coming back to the composition,it actually starts off with a very pleasing...

...E F F# G(pull of)E and then an arpeggio in C Major. After that Carcassi just effortlessly shifts it to Am(I think, curse my limited knowledge).Really takes my breath away! After that its pure magic. And with the dynamics its, well wave upon wave of pure, unadelterated joy! This composition really made me realise the virtue of toiling hard to achieve your goal. When I had started out this composition I seemed like a hopeless non-starter and I had even contemplated giving it all up and switching to an easier composition. But Fate had some other plans I guess! Now that I've more or less stuck it out, gnashed my teeth, strengthened my resolve, put finger to fretboard to the point of my fourth finger burning like mad(had to 'douse' it in water for quite some time to alleviate the numbness which had got into it)got the hang of the thing, there's this curious feeling of satisfaction and pride which I'm getting at the fact that I'm finally able to play this piece in its wholesome goodness(albeit with some minor errors here and there which I will correct in due course of time). This composition has given me the strngth to face these adverse times and courage to handle all adversity and make a gesture equivalent to that of flicking irksome dust from the vicinity of the left shoulder with a "couldn't-care-less" brushing motion to all those who doubt me and want me to fall from grace. For my true friends will always stand beside me and give me hope and solace and comfort.

Thank God for the divine gift of articulate music.Matteo Carcassi,I bow down before you and the contribution you have made to the learning and advancement of learning of classical music. My journey of discovery has just begun and its a long road I have to travel to get to my destination, albeit there being no destination in sight as of now.

Of Realisations and Awakenings

Well today the test wasn't as bad as i thought it'd be!Just reaffirms my belief in myself but still I can't help but wonder how much I've changed over the course over this last yr.Before this, when I used to study,I used to set a fixed target for myself based on the number of pages I had to cover and set a time limit accordingly. But now all that has vanished.Kaput.Out the window.

Wouldn't have botered much if it had been the same ol physics and chem but what hurts the most is that i took, rather chose, this subject out of the love I have for it with all my heart and soul, not because of anything else.So there really is no justification for this lackadaiscal attitude is unfathomable on my part.I really ought to buckle up now and get down to it!

On a more personal front,I'm berating my parents even more now for not buyin me a bass after hearin Sting and The Miles Davis Quartet.I mean I know those bass lines are the stuff dreams are made of and way beyond my reach but that still doesn't stop me from having innocent day dreams about playin alongside Miles Davis(:P).It doesn't hurt to dream now does it!Sting and Miles Davis have opened up my ears to a completely new genre of music of which I was hitherto unaware but it's never too late now,is it?!

Random again!

Well I donno what it is with me today but I've got into this mode where I'm typin voraciously here. This is the second time today that I'm sittin here toady :P.
But well, this is seeming to be a rather long road I"m going to have to walk.Uff the utter enormity of what I have to prepare is kilinng me.But its a good start and well it's never too late to start now is it?!(The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago.The second best time is now)
Wonder which son of the soil cooked that up now.Whoever he was must have been pretty good with the ol shovel to realise that two decades are but an insignificant period in the life of someone who has dedicated his life to ensuring the continuity of the green species.Everyone reagardless of his/her occupation has to slog it out under the blinding sun and prove his/her worth to everyone. Its never too late,is it?!
And well just on cue to an earlier comment I had made,I'd like yuo all to see this.I mean I know I'm acting like a kid over-enthusiastic for candy but seeing as my economic knowledge is still in its infancy,I do get fired up by developments of this kind!To some who keep themselves updated, this might seem like old hat!

http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/23b62bfc-338b-11de-8f1b-00144feabdc0.html?nclick_check=1

Well this concept is really amazing and has never ceased to amaze me as soon as I read Prof Mankiw's blog on the same subject and the subsequent repartee by Prof Robert Mises(I apologise for being repetitive)
And ooh what do we have here!
"PhD's in Economics are the maximum no of people who still have their jobs in the wake of the downturn"
So i should hurry to get a PhD while I still have the enthu for the same :P
But before that I do guess I have to clear this small and relatively insignificant examination called the Part 1!
So some other time then!Cheerio!

Random thoughts on a lazy summer's day

Well!I never thought myself capable of doing so but I've made a resoultion to not come online before my exams!Donno how far I'm going to stick to it though

Today is the day i finally realised I have tonnes to study and very little time to study it in!Bless me.But I'll cope.I've got used to this ever since I managed to pull myself up to the 11th standard.Studying at the last moment has become second nature for me come to think of it!I'm basically trying to console myself here(Nyakamo korar aar jyaga pelo na...i can almost hear someone saying :P).No dude this is the real thing. Not joking. As serious as serious can be.Part 1!!!!

Why did this exam have to approach! But approach it has.60 days.Micro.Macro,Mathecon,Stats.Its on now(rem the ym audible :P).Thank goodness for this platform where I can articulate whatever I feel like.It doesn't necessarily have to make sense all the time does it :P

Today is the day when I will prove to the entire world that I'm capable of dealing with consumer behaviour.Ekta consumer jinish kinte giye eto chaap nite pare kokhono?pagol hoye jabe toh.But I guess its not for me to debate on what Samuelson and the like have posited :P According to this wonderful breed of people who fashion themselves as economists, consumers are capable of dealing with this "chaap" and a lot more(if in doubt, lease look up substitution and income effect in hal r varian :P).It is our sworn duty to therefore sit and study the same :P)

Well i guess my motto should be "Stop cribbing start studying".So i shall do that.

PS-This debate between Greg Mankiw and Robert mises on the negative interest rate really fired my imagination.Just think-what if interest rates were to become negative?Would it cause people to hold more money?Would the economy recover? What about those hwo live on pensions and the like? What about them?Interesting. Two very different approaches by two of the best in the business.

Thank God for economics!
